Accounting Manager

Job Description

Accounting Manager

Lead and mentor a small team alongside an experienced leadership team, composed of former nonprofit executives, public accounting auditors, and senior finance directors. 

Job Type: Full-time

Workplace Type: Hybrid

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or Accounting-Related Field
  • CPA license (preferred)
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience
  • 2-4 years of management and leadership experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with any accounting software
  • Local to Saint Louis or willing to relocate

What would you be helping us with:

The Accounting Manager holds many responsibilities.  They oversee and handle the day-to-day operations of a team of 4-5 accounting associates, which requires advanced accounting knowledge, comfortability with technology, and significant management experience. We measure the success of the person in this role by the success of the team they are coaching and managing.  These coaching and managing activities include:

  • Manage a team of 4-5 accounting associates. Track team-wide tasks and upcoming deadlines, and coordinate with staff to ensure that your team has the tools they need to complete each task correctly and on time.
  • Provide technical and social support to the team while developing each staff member to their full potential and efficiency.
  • Professional development of the team, including providing in-service training on technical advances in non-profit accounting.
  • Regularly evaluate each employee and provide timely, honest feedback. ​​Hold team members accountable to deadlines, quality, and client service standards.
  • Analyze and manage client profitability. Report feedback to company leadership.
  • Periodically check-in with clients to assess client satisfaction and address issues.
  • Review client financial statements, as prepared by accounting associates, on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Serve as a CFO and ‘thought leader’ for clients.  Provide clients with answers to their accounting questions and communicate proactively when accounting problems are identified.
  • Provide support to clients in preparing annual budgets, cash flow forecasts, and other financial analysis.
  • Ensure that client financial statements are accurate and ‘audit-ready’ prior to the commencement of financial statement audits.  Serve as a liaison between the clients and their auditors.
  • Review 990 drafts, as prepared by accounting associates, to ensure accuracy and compliance with IRS rules.
  • Present periodic financial information to clients and boards of directors.
  • Research and continue education in all areas of accounting and technology used internally and by clients.
  • Onboard new employees and ensure their successful transition to the company.
  • Interview candidates for new positions.
  • Lead staff meetings and training.

Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • Experience mentoring or training new team members, preferred
  • 2 years experience in full cycle accounting, preferred, or 1 year auditing experience
  • Energized by working with non-profit organizations
  • Experience with Quickbooks Online or another accounting system, preferred
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting, preferred
  • Comfortable using software; willing to learn new software as required by the position
  • Willingness to learn new skills and not afraid of a challenge

What would you be helping us with:

  • Assisting with management responsibilities for a team of 4 accounting associates
  • Leading board and finance committee presentations for assigned clients
  • Providing budget and forecasting services for assigned clients
  • Conducting interviews for new accounting associates
  • Training new accounting associates and assisting with their evaluations
  • Reviewing audits, 990’s, and monthly reports for accuracy
  • Entering transactions for assigned clients using a number of software platforms
  • Responding to requests from assigned clients on general accounting needs (i.e. running reports, responding to requests, etc.)
  • Preparing reconciliations (i.e. bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, general ledger accounts, etc.)
  • Preparing monthly financial reports for assigned clients
  • Establishing, documenting, and evaluating internal processes for the best client experience.

Accounting Assistant

What you would be helping us with: 

  • Supporting our new client onboarding team and accounting service teams by handling day-to-day bookkeeping tasks for a wide range of clients
  • Entering transactions for assigned clients using a number of software platforms, including QuickBooks Online, Dext, and Bill.com.
  • Preparing account reconciliations (i.e. bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, etc.)
  • Performing periodic self-reviews to ensure that accounting is accurate
  • Collaborating with team members across the company to assist them with bookkeeping, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements

Desired Qualifications:

  • Desire to be a full-cycle Accountant
  • Energized by working with non-profit organizations
  • Experience with Quickbooks Online or another accounting system, preferred
  • Comfortable using software; willing to learn new software 
  • Excellent verbal communicator, required, and excellent written communicator, preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
